For the medium grade canvas tarpaulin and heavy duty (marine canvas fabric quality) canvas tarpaulin, the PVC coated canvas tarpaulin and vinylon canvas tarpaulin are two of the more popular waterproof canvas fabric types used.

The selection of the grade of waterproof canvas material for fabrication would be dependant on the nature of use and the expected length of service. These canvas fabrics are commonly used for outdoor purposes as shelters, waterproof canvas covers for equipment, canvas sheets for goods and permanent/temporary fixtures to protect them from the elements for example rain and direct sunlight. Due to their strength and durability, These canvas fabrics are also commonly fabricated to sacks, canvas bags and covers for indoor equipment.
